Meet Dr Shahana Abed
Dr Shahana Abed is a passionate dentist and a people person. With her creative spirit and particular interest in aesthetics, she sees dentistry as an art; she includes all aspects of general dentistry as well as whitening, crowns, bridges, veneers, invisalign and implants in her practice. She is always expanding her scope and keeping up with latest advancements in dentistry in techniques and technology. She places dental implants; from initial surgery to final crown placement. She is an advanced aesthetic practitioner; gifted at facial harmonisation and cosmetic facial enhancement procedures, Dr Shahana has widened her scope to include dermatology and medical grade skin treatments such as chemical peels, skin needling, mesotherapy and PRP (vampire facials). In addition to its regular cosmetic uses, she also treats treat painful jaws, excessive sweating and migraines. Her patients love coming to see her; she is empathetic and places much emphasis on providing holistic treatment to her patients.
OVER 20+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
After completing her dentistry degree at Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2002, she spent her early years in service to the public; working in both hospital and community practices in rural South Africa as well as in private practice before migrating to the UK. With a passion for prevention, she has received recognition in both these countries for instituting dental health education workshops in underprivileged and lower socio-economic areas.
2007 - PASSIONATE ABOUT TEACHING
In 2007 she migrated to Australia and Dr Shahana became passionate about giving back; she does everything possible to motivate towards the understanding of prevention, and a better standard of dental health. It is this passion for dentistry that lead her to teaching; she has taught dental students at Universities in South Africa, the UK and in Australia has taught dental students at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Shahana then proceeded to complete her Australian Dental Council exams and subsequently registered with the Australian Dental board.
2022 - AURORA ACADEMY
In 2022 Dr Shahana Abed founded Aurora Academy; a dental education platform which provides both undergraduate and postgraduate training to dentists globally.
HER EXPERTISE
Dr Shahana brings with her more than 20 years of experience in the field of dentistry; in practice, academics, research and education. She has pursued postgraduate studies in dento-facial aesthetics and a fellowship in implantology. Outside of dentistry Dr Shahana is whimsical and a dreamer; With her love of literature and classics, and qualification in communication, journalism and creative writing, she writes short stories and poetry. Ultimately, being mother to her children will always remain her most challenging role.
